Straddling two countries

You’ve been living in your new “home” country for a few years now. You might have even gone through the process to get permanent residency or citizenship. As life settles, all of the decisions that you’ve been able to put off after moving suddenly can’t wait any longer. It can feel increasingly overwhelming.

Do you close your bank accounts back home or keep them open? Renew your driver’s license or let it expire? Vote in one country or two countries (or more)? All of these niggling life administration questions can start to compound. What looks like simple paperwork often carries much more emotional weight than people expect.

Being pulled in all of these directions could feel almost symbolic of the personal shifts you feel within your identity. Push, pull, straddle, divide, reconnect, sever, question, decide. Sometimes it all feels fluid; other times, it feels permanent. Whatever you're experiencing, it's a normal part of navigating life between countries—even when it isn't easy.

There is a lot to sift through and make decisions about (not to mention take action)! You’re not alone. So many of us have lived and are continuing to live through similar situations and life challenges. With the right support, it doesn't have to feel so overwhelming.

If this resonates with you, I'd love to chat.
