Feeling safe, respected and understood
Trauma Informed Care is an extremely important framework that guides all aspects of my work as a therapist. It provides a holistic way of approaching therapy while paying close attention to the impact trauma can have on people's lives. Most importantly, it helps me actively work to reduce the possibility of re-traumatisation throughout our time together.
The four R's that I am trained in, and adhere to, include the realisation of the widespread impact of trauma and the paths to recovery, the recognition of the signs and symptoms of trauma, responding in ways that support healing, and actively resisting re-traumatisation (TIO, 2026).
What this means in practice is that every interaction, decision and therapeutic intervention is informed by an awareness of how trauma can affect a person's emotional, physical and psychological wellbeing.
A culturally responsive approach
Another important aspect of Trauma Informed Care is recognising and valuing the unique experiences, backgrounds and strengths that every person brings into the therapy room.
As someone who works extensively with multicultural individuals, I understand that culture, language, family history, migration experiences and community can all shape how we experience the world and how we experience healing.
Trauma Informed Care incorporates culturally responsive principles that recognise the inherent value of every individual's background and cultural knowledge.
Working together at your pace
Trauma Informed Care centres several key principles: trauma awareness, safety, choice and empowerment, and a strengths-based approach.
This means creating an environment where you feel as emotionally and physically safe as possible, where your choices are respected, and where we focus not only on challenges but also on your strengths, resilience and capacity for healing.
I believe that you are the expert in your own life. Therapy is not about pushing you to discuss things before you are ready. Instead, we work together at a pace that feels comfortable and manageable for you.
What this means for you
My goal is to create a warm, supportive and respectful environment where you feel heard, understood and empowered throughout the therapeutic process.
You can feel confident knowing that I carefully consider your wellbeing in every aspect of our work together. Whether we are exploring difficult experiences, learning new coping strategies, or simply creating space for reflection, Trauma Informed Care helps ensure that our work remains grounded in safety, compassion and respect.
