Understanding the many parts of your experience

As people, we come into the world and are shaped by our experiences, relationships, communities and the broader systems we live within.

Part of this process involves our social identities. These may include our gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, culture, language, ability or disability, class, nationality, age, religion, spirituality, or many other aspects of who we are.

No single identity exists in isolation.

Each of these experiences interacts with the others to shape how we move through the world, how we are perceived by others, the opportunities available to us, and the challenges we may face. This is known as intersectionality.

Your experience is unique

When we work together, I am interested in understanding your whole experience, not just one aspect of your identity.

Rather than focusing on a single part of who you are, we can become curious about how different parts of your identity, history and lived experience intersect and influence your day-to-day life.

For some people, this may include exploring experiences of privilege, discrimination, belonging, exclusion, migration, family expectations, community, or cultural identity. For others, it may involve examining how larger social systems, including colonialism, continue to shape experiences and opportunities.

Making sense of complexity

Many people carry challenges that can feel difficult to explain when viewed through only one lens.

Often, our experiences make more sense when we take the time to understand the broader context in which they exist.

By recognising the complexity of your experiences and acknowledging that you are not alone in them, we can develop a deeper understanding of what is happening in your life and what may help moving forward.

Living with greater contentment and self-compassion

My goal is not to place labels on your experiences, but to better understand them.

Together, we can explore ways to cultivate self-compassion, strengthen boundaries, build on your existing strengths, and create a life that feels more aligned with who you are.

Ultimately, this work is about helping you move beyond simply surviving and towards living with greater contentment, connection and fulfilment.
